Are you the friend who loves opening people’s fridges just to see what they have, or the type who snoops in someone else’s pantry? 🙋🏼♀️
^^ Live footage of me at any friend’s house
I love going to friends’ houses and taking a peek in their fridge, pantry, and freezer. I love seeing how people eat. I often discover new brands and get inspiration for meals based on the whole foods and pantry staples they keep on hand. The best friends are the ones who send you home with samples (you know who you are — thank you!).
One of the most common questions I get from YOU LOVELY HUMANS is about specific food and product recommendations: the type of gnocchi I use (it’s Capellos), my favorite pasta (Chefs Kiss), what seed oil free condiments I use (Primal Kitchen and Sunny are two favorites), what fruits and vegetables I buy every week (depends on the season, but always berries and avocados), how I prep a quick colorful lunch in 10 minutes, and more.
At Cooking in Color, I believe in bright, blood sugar-friendly, flavor-packed food made from real ingredients, but there’s no one “right” way to do it. We all have different taste buds, preferences, and budgets, and Cooking in Color subscribers live all over the world! I love hearing how you’ve taken one of my recipes and made a swap, tweak, or addition to fit your lifestyle or location.
Sure, I have my way, but my goal is to show you there are many ways to Cook in Color. As I’ve said (especially in my deep dive on food freedom and what it means to me), eating real, whole, unprocessed foods (and very minimally processed pantry staples) leads to food freedom, but there’s no single path to get there.
My goal is to help you find your way of cooking in color.
INTRODUCING… Real (Food) Kitchens
Real (Food) Kitchens is a new series where I ask some of my favorite women (and men just haven’t interviewed any yet!) in the real food world to open up their kitchens and show us how they really live, cook, and eat. I’m talking pantry staples, freezer MVPs, go-to meals, and what they grab when they don’t feel like cooking at all.
Cooking in Color is about building a plate that works for you. Sometimes the most helpful thing isn’t a perfect recipe, but seeing how someone else sets up their fridge and pantry.
Starting early next week, I’ll be sharing regular Q&As with some INCREDIBLE home cooks, nutritionists, real food activists, and more, complete with real-life photos and all the quirky faves and honest habits that come with it. If there’s someone you’re dying to know what’s in their fridge or pantry, let me know!
My hope is that these interviews give you new ideas, spark inspiration, introduce you to fresh brands or products, and most of all, remind you that your kitchen doesn’t have to look one way to be full of flavor, nourishment, and joy.
Stay tuned for insight into some real kitchens from real humans, with real food. Hence the title…Real (Food) Kitchens. Get it? I probably didn’t need to explain that.
Much love,
Sonja
P.S. Big shout-out to Katie Stone of Plant Based. Reading her Into the Fridge series is one of my favorites, and was part of the inspiration for this series!
Can’t wait!!!
